Upload photos to a gallery
File types, size limits, the sizes Apture makes for you, and what counts toward your storage.
How to upload
- Open the gallery from Clients > Galleries.
- Go to the Photos tab.
- Drag photos onto the box, or click it to choose files. You can pick many at once.
Apture uploads three files at a time and shows how many are done. When it finishes you'll see how many uploaded, and a message for any file that didn't.
File types and limits
- Accepted: JPEG, PNG, WebP and TIFF.
- HEIC isn't supported. Export those photos as JPEG first.
- Each file can be up to 100 MB.
- Apture checks that each file really is the type its name says. A file renamed to .jpg that isn't a JPEG is refused.
What Apture makes from each photo
Your original is kept as you uploaded it, except that GPS location data is removed. Camera details and orientation stay. Apture also makes three JPEG versions:
- Thumbnail, 800px on the long edge, for the grid.
- Web & social, 2048px on the long edge.
- High resolution, 4096px on the long edge.
Smaller photos are never enlarged. Clients can download Web & social, High resolution, and the original (if you allow originals).
Order and cover
Photos appear in the order you upload them. The first photo you upload becomes the cover until you pick another. See Cover photo, layout and colors.
Storage
Your storage use is the total size of the original files you've uploaded. The smaller versions Apture makes don't count. When an upload takes you past 80% and again past 95% of your limit, you get a warning in the app and by email.
When your storage is full, uploads stop with a message saying so. Add a storage pack, or choose a plan, on Account > Billing to keep uploading. Deleting photos or galleries frees space (see Delete photos and galleries).
